| Mr. Kansas City: Life of Buck O'Neil
Synopsis: Honoring everybody's favorite old baseball hero
Challenge: Create a portrait of John J. "Buck" O'Neil, legendary Kansas City Monarch, baseball scholar, historian, and tireless advocate of civility, tolerance and love. Background: IBT Media commissioned a project to capture the essence of Buck O'Neil, a national figure and one of Kansas City's most beloved residents and tireless ambassadors. The result: Mr. Kansas City: the Life of Buck O’Neil. Production Values: An affectionate and intimate portrait is created through interviews with Buck and by following him around to see his life. The show also includes rare photos and interviews. Highlights: Buck being Buck: at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, at church, and on-camera in an extensive interview. He told some of his favorite stories – but also touched on much less familiar material. Results: A warm, charming, delightful one-hour program (plus an additional hour of bonus material) that has been sold on Amazon.com, through The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, through IBT's web site – and has been broadcast on Public Television. |
